We were invited to play a concert in Reykjavik, and the day before we arrived all the civil servants went on strike and the gig was going to be cancelled. We were guests of the Icelandic Government on a cultural mission. We did come from the land of the ice and snow. Plant spoke about this with biographer Chris Welch for his 2015 book, Led Zeppelin: The Story of the Biggest Band of the 70s: Hence the song’s inspiration, and all the viking references.
